Goal in One
Jaynie Ralph says that achieving your goals is easy
Want to improve your golf handicap or singing voice? It makes sense to have lessons with a professional coach. But what if you want promotion at work, a passionate love life, a fatter bank balance or a happier life? Perhaps you should consider hiring a life coach.
Life coaching isn’t therapy or counselling. It doesn’t focus on looking back at where you might have gone wrong, but on planning ahead to how you can definitely make things better. Coaching sessions are about talking, focusing and gaining clarity and perspective. It’s the modern holistic approach to living a fulfiling life – no wonder it’s been growing in popularity over the last few years.

Life coaching can be done face-to-face or even over the phone in your lunch hour. Working in partnership with a professional coach, the aim is to find an individual, healthy, holistic life balance. Key areas are usually work, relationships, finances, social life, spirituality, career, home, health and fitness. Together you identify one or two areas that require addressing first, then set and meet goals in these areas.
Whether it’s climbing Mount Everest, having a closer relationship with your parents or finding your soulmate, the outcome of life coaching depends on the individual and requires commitment as well as a series of sessions to gain the level of results you are looking for.
Integrity is an important part of the coaching agreement. At each session you agree steps with the coach in order to get closer to your dream or goal. You decide on the tasks, you take action and then you enjoy the results.
Life coach Jonathan Conway offers his tips
• Make a list of daily experiences that you are grateful for – this could be waking up to a blue sky, a smile from a stranger or finding the perfect parking space.
• Do at least one thing every day just for you – take a walk on the beach, read an uplifting book or listen to a favourite piece of music.
• Acknowledge all the achievements you make from today, from this year and from your life. Write them down in a journal.
If you want to take powerful action in any area of your life – whether you want to lose weight, start your own business, buy a house, or just take life by the balls (golf balls, or any other), consider hiring yourself a life coach.
