Hypnotherapy in Brighton and Hove
Hypnotic trances are characterised by a split in attention whereby you are aware of the reality around you but voluntarily choose to have a vivid imaginary experience. All the participants in hypnotic stage shows actively volunteer to take part and all report being aware of what is happening but wanting to use the hypnotist's skill to enjoy some new experiences that would not otherwise be available to them. No one can be hypnotised against their will, nor can anyone not come out of hypnosis at will, just as someone cannot be commanded to daydream, nor can they not come out of a daydream at will.
The skills you can learn through hypnosis will enable you to gain better control over both your mind and body. Just as thinking about an unpleasant event can give you butterflies in your stomach, you can use hypnotic skills to become calmer, more relaxed and more centred. Rehearsing situations in trance allows you to lay down helpful templates for future behaviour, whether it is at work, at home, in social situations or on your own, enabling to you to be how you want to be.

`There is good evidence from randomised controlled trials that both hypnosis and relaxation techniques can reduce anxiety.... They are also effective for panic disorders and insomnia, particularly when integrated into a package of cognitive therapy (including, for example, sleep hygiene). A systematic review has found that hypnosis enhances the effects of cognitive behavioural therapy for conditions such as phobia, obesity, and anxiety... Randomised trials have shown hypnosis to be of value in asthma and in irritable bowel syndrome.'
