It’s all coming up roses

These days skin products can feel mass produced and over processed - even if they have organic in the title. But what other choice do we have? Who has time to whip up some home-made beauty lotions at the weekend? So I was delighted to discover Borealis Organic Skincare, a new Brighton based company right on my doorstep.

Borealis range of natural skincare beauties conquer up images of idyllic times gone by. They seem lovingly made, in a ‘stirred with a wooden spoon in a quaint kitchen, left in the larder overnight,’ kind of way.

What was immediately obvious to me was...

The reassuringly authentic weight & texture of the creams and balms.
The fact they smell like a herb garden in full flourish.
The packaging is un-screamingly simple, telling me they care more about what goes in to the product than what it comes in.

In short - proper, ‘just made,’ bursting with health products. And I didn’t have to miss my weekend workshop or move to a cottage in the country to make them either. Marvellous!

The uplifting and decadent Wild Rose Night Cream (£17.50) is heaven on a pot. I’m huge water fan but never seem to feel fully hydrated. So many moisturisers fall at the post with me as I tire of repetitively applying. The texture feels abundant with H2O and is just what the water doctor ordered. It never fails to nourish my face overnight. I’m left feeling pampered, unladen with any chemicals with soft, smooth feeling skin. The pot tells me, ‘This light, nourishing cream is packed with the scent and goodness of rose. It absorbs quickly into the skin and helps to retain moisture. Apply to cleansed skin at least ten minutes before sleep to enable the cream to be absorbed fully. Place a small amount onto clean fingertips and massage upwards onto face and neck.’ So it’s wonderful AND economical too. I’m happy.

The Green Mandarin Active Daily Defence Cream (£14) for normal skin is divine too. I found a light dab of this parabin-free pot of loveliness creates a perfect layer of nature’s blessings. It sets me up nicely for the day ahead and a good foundation for any make up I want to wear. I adore the smell of Lavender, luckily it’s subtle enough to not have me falling asleep in my yoghurt & blueberries though. The small print on that pot says, ‘This light, hydrating formulation has active lupine peptides which can help fight the signs of chronic photoaging and the subsequent formation of wrinkles. A blend of organic Cocoa Butter, Thistle, Almond and Olive Oil is infused with a blend of organic Italian Green Mandarin, Cyprus, Frankincense, Black Pepper and calming Lavender to help your skin retain moisture and fight the signs of ageing from everyday environmental and sun damage.‘ What more can I say? Glorious.

For happy hands there’s the scrumptious Triple H Herbal Hand Balm (£7.50) and the Organic Jojoba & Shea Butter Cuticle & Nail Conditioner (£4.25). Both offering wholesome protection from the elements and rescue remedy from any harsh nail varnish worn in a fit of cheap fashion faux pas.

For unhydrated, chapped or sore lips there is the Hand Blended Orange & Ginger Lip Balm - something that must have been prised away from the bee hive as it felt thick and solid and full of tubby bumble bee goodness. (£3.25).

I’m loving their strap line too. Borealis organic Skincare. Let nature nurture your skin.
